AT THE FAMILI PARK by Alberto Mesirca
(Click on image for larger view)

Alberto Mesirca (b. 1964) is an Artist who approaches his subjects in two ways.

One is from a geometrical and rational perspective, possibly trying to find the abstract in reality and attempting to rationalize it. The other is from a sociological perspective, investigating the social, economical and historical context of also minimal aspects of actuality that, like in a fractal, represent the whole.

He discovered photography when he was a teen but he started practicing it at an advanced amateur level for 4 years now.

He grew up in Rome (Italy) and after having obtained a Master in Telecommunications Engineering he lived and worked in different countries (Hong Kong, Argentina, USA, Belgium, United Arab Emirates) following his wife on postings abroad.

He currently lives in Los Angeles, California

CROSSROADS - URBAN ABSTRACT SERIES by Andres Gonzalez
(Click on image for larger view)

Andres Gonzalez says, "A stranger by the road. An observer walking life’s road, watching a mirage of images pass us by, using photography to find and capture the inherent beauty that accompanies us along the path.

It has to do with movement, walking or driving to and from places, many of my photographs start with a speck of light, color or shading that calls to me from the edges of my vision. I stop and indulge myself in the moment. I contemplate the scene, and as the different elements speak to me I invite them into my picture.

As a Mexican and a middle child, I’m chaotic in nature and in my craft I explore the underlying order in chaos, via the common threads that all objects share: form, line, color, etc.

I enjoy exploring scenes of our everyday life as the elements of these scenes make for the best subjects to experiment the limits of these qualities with. By having no iconic or unique scenes distracting the eye, I can freely explore the different visual arrangements that everyday life gives us. As such my images
tend to omit iconic elements such as people, sunrises, sunsets, roses, etc. elements that have a lot of predefined meanings that I often find distracting.

These subjects we pass in our everyday life are often randomly intersected by several other factors and circumstances (specially in unkempt places) that the compositions they configure are unique, somewhat chaotic and are more than meets the eye."

Born and raised in Saltillo, a small city in northern Mexico, nestled in a valley between “La Sierra Madre” mountain range and the Sonoran Desert, currently based in Arizona.

He was bilingually educated, raised by teachers and received a B.A. in Psychology from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. Thus has spent
most of his life in various day jobs revolving around these themes (being bilingual, education and psychology) to help make ends meet for his family.

Recently, in his late thirties, he underwent a kind of identity crisis in the form of a creeping frustration with his life, as he was spending most of his waking hours making ends meet but not necessarily pursuing his desires.

Since he had always been fascinated by the visual arts, and having been taking pictures throughout his life as a hobby, photography was a readily available outlet for his creative urges. As he leaned more intentionally into photography as a craft, he quickly identified as a photographer as he could spend hours upon hours pursuing it, always craving more.

Although he still keeps busy, juggling family time, a full time day job (and two part time ones), he is increasingly leaning into fine art photography, and consistently working at his craft every week, honing on his creative voice and aesthetics, letting it
organically grow and take over more of his waking hours as he is able.

HONORABLE MENTION
(Click on image for larger view)

"My name is Christopher St. Armand and I have a passionate relationship with photography.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, I've noticed that the world around me is a live canvas in which I wanted to capture in every waking moment.

My origins began with concert/event photography, where I began to develop my optical creativity. Fast forward several years, I have been on a photographic odyssey. I've had the pleasure of meeting new people of all walks of life, experience various cultures throughout my travels and challenged myself with various photographic projects.

Ultimately, I plan to continue to grow with my love for photography and share the world that I view through my lens."

PASADENA 2012 by Chris Bashaw
(Click on image for larger view)

Chris Bashaw says, "Street photography has been in my past for about four years as I've explored other topics and methods, but it holds a critical place in my passion and education in photography. I pursued it mostly while I was in college, and spent many nights wandering around Old Town Pasadena - the nearest "urban" spot to me at the time - looking for the right light to match the right moment.

On the whole, my street photography exposed (and still exposes) a lot of my personality. As I am an introvert, so too are my street photographs. They tend to focus on moments that don't really scream at the viewer; rather, they're more akin to quiet whispers beckoning the viewer to appreciate the beauty of life's simplicity. Indeed, life doesn't always need to be eccentric, loud or boisterous to be interesting, and neither does street photography."

BATMAN TIMES SQUARE by Chris Jones
(Click on image for larger view)

Chris Jones says, "I trained in fine art and have always been interested in the figure. I feel that it informs my photography – shooting in the street allows for a greater examination of the figure in the environment. I’m excited by capturing people in moments of stillness or introspection, the sense of being alone among the multitudes.

Each image should reveal something to the viewer but also hold back a little – I try to tell a story or create a mood with each one.

I often work in series – these are from “The Street and the City”, 8 days in New York.

My camera always travels with me, from the streets of New York, Barcelona and Rome, the beaches of Cadiz and Gran Canaria to the wilderness of Costa Rica and the west of Ireland."

Chris Jones was born in New York and grew up in Co. Kerry in the west of Ireland.

He holds a BA in Fine Art, Limerick School of Art and Design. Currently lives and works in Dublin.

MONDAY MORNING MEETING by Connie Gardner Rosenthal
(Click on image for larger view)

Connie Gardner Rosenthal says, "The following quote by Elliott Erwitt sums up what I love about photography: “To me, photography is an art of observation.  It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place…I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”  For me, photography entices my sense of awareness and guides me to notice, compose and capture fleeting moments in my life.  Photography is a journey to observe and express myself and find out who I am.

I grew up in Philadelphia, attended college at the University of Pittsburgh and then graduate school at NYU.  After living in New York City for 15 years I moved to Los Angeles where I currently reside.  My work experiences have included teaching, catering and running a corporate dining room, managing a photography studio, and designing jewelry.  I have been exploring mobile photography since attending the LA Mobile Photography in August 2012."

CROSSROADS by Dan Cook
(Click on image for larger view)

Dan Cook says, "Creativity arises in conversation with constraints—the constraints enforced by the medium or media employed, by the long history of artistic attempts of those who have come before us and by the immediate circumstances of one’s life, attitude and self-imposed challenges.

A key constraint of photography is that it anchors one, however tenuously, to some version of the here- and-now....to some present moment that must be grappled with visually. Photography, as I have experienced it, struggles with the tension between subject and form differently than other visually-oriented media to the extent that it lives off of some aspect of the world as given.

The streetscape, the varied and variable circumstances of light and shadow, the objects in the environment, among other things, all in some way have to be handled and taken into account. In this sense, I liken photography closer to sculpture than to painting."

Dan Cook is a resident of Philadelphia and a professor at Rutgers University-Camden. A self-taught, non-professional photographer, Cook teaches on, among other things, visual research methods and visual ways of knowing.

He is a member of the Copley Society of Art, the Sketch Club of Philadelphia and Philadelphia PhotoArts.

Heather Solomon is an emerging street photographer whose home base is New York. She has a doctorate in child psychology and a degree in culinary arts, both former careers influence her current work.

She has taken classes at the International Center of Photography and the Digital Arts Center.  Most recently, she joined Todd Hido for a workshop at the Palm Springs Photo Festival.

She is moved by the interaction between people, as well as the places they leave behind.  She is a dynamic photographer with an impressive sense of space, light and subject. Her photography is often tinged with tongue-in-cheek humor.

Heather favors the days when she takes her children to Chinatown, Little Italy or Coney Island to enjoy an afternoon filled with local fare and photographing the people and culture of the area.  There is a wonderful excitement, not knowing whom you will meet or what treasured moment you will capture.
